"Thus says the Lord God: No foreigner, uncircumcised in heart and flesh, of all the foreigners who are among the people of Israel, shall enter my sanctuary." |
Among The Children Of Israel
|
At the Iconoclast, we recognize that there is a place for the nations (i.e. non-Jews) living among the Israelite people who, along with Israel, also adhere to the teachings of the Torah; and that for those the Hebrew Scriptures clearly ascribe inheritance among the Israelite tribes where they dwell! However, per the sure teachings in the Torah of יְהֹוָה [YehoVaH] (G-d), we do not believe that a true "Paulist" (a "Christian" follower of Saul of Tarsus, aka Paul) can be considered to be among those who will have obtained an inheritance along with the children of Israel, in spite of that being their boast! You may ask, why? The answer is simply because they adhere to the central "Paulist" doctrine/tenet that they are not bound (obligated to observe or follow) the Torah of יְהֹוָה [YehoVaH] (G-d), even though that is a central theme in the teachings of Yeshua, whom they think they follow (in actuality, do they not follow the version of Yeshua according to 'Paul'? — see New Testament passage Romans 6:14-15 included in our page devoted to the discussion that Saul of Tarsus, aka "Paul" is a false Apostle). In our opinion, anyone who forsakes the Torah (specifically, the first 5 books of the Hebrew Scriptures, but also the entire Hebrew Scriptures [which collectively are the Torah (Teachings) of Yehovah]) cannot be considered as one of those who have joined themselves with Israel, i.e., a sojourner or one who dwells among the tribes of Israel! Again, ironically, that does not stop the many of them to boastfully claim that they are now "the Israel of G-d", in opposition to and in spite of the clear teachings of Yeshua which clearly illustrate that He considered following the Torah of יְהֹוָה [YehoVaH] in his own teachings! We defy anyone to show us anywhere within the canonized "New Testament" where Yeshua is directly quoted as instructing His followers to forsake the Torah of יְהֹוָה [YehoVaH] (G-d). (Yet, in direct opposition to the clear teachings of the quoted Yeshua, Forsaking the Torah of יְהֹוָה [YehoVaH] is a predominant and constant theme in the teachings of the arrogant, self–appointed, self–proclaimed apostle 'Paul'!) The following is a passage in Ezekiel which specifically assigns inheritance among the tribes of Israel to those non-Jews who actually dwell among the tribes of Israel (note that this is a theme running throughout Scripture, and not an isolated case). |
Ezekiel 47:21-23 | |||
21 |
So shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes of Israel. |
22 |
And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you and to the strangers that sojourn among you, who shall beget children among you; and they shall be unto you as the home-born among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. |
23 |
And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord GOD. {P} |
How Should The "Strangers",
— They Must Also Follow The Torah! It is quite evident from the Tanach that non-Jews who join themselves to Israel must also adhere to the same commands and statutes given to those Israelites they dwell among. Thus, if a non-Jew believes that he or she is now part of Israel even as a consequence of their belief that Yeshua ("Jesus") is Mashiach (aka, the Messiah), it is quite clear from the Hebrew Scriptures that they must follow the Torah given to Moses! Yet, it is also evident that they should sojourn among Israelites of like faith. In other words, we believe they must worship among Israelites that believe Yeshua Is Mashiach and positively obey His teachings regarding keeping the Torah, yet also forsaking the authority of Talmudic rabbis as well as forsaking the authority of the teachings of Saul of Tarsus (aka, Paul; the FALSE, self–appointed uber–Apostle of Yeshua)! It is our contention that a great majority of non-Jews who consider themselves to be followers of Yeshua would not consider to ever following His instructions to follow the Torah, and they could undoubtedly support those PERVERTED views through the writings of Saul of Tarsus, aka Paul. On our web page titled, Paul, the false apostle, we try to make this clear and we try to show through the various writings why we do not believe Saul of Tarsus to have been chosen by Yeshua to be an Apostle, and that, in fact, we regard him to be a false prophet — one who turns others away from יְהֹוָה [YehoVaH] (G-d). "The Strangers That Sojourneth Among You" At The Iconoclast, it is our sincere opinion that non-Jews who really accept the promised Mashiach should be considered as the "strangers that sojourneth among you" as per the example given to us in the Tanach! They should not be separated from those "Israelites" who also follow Yeshua as the promised Mashiach, adhere to the Torah of Moses and forsake Talmudic/rabbinic "Judaism"! Yet we must ask: how many of the non-Jews, who consider themselves followers of the Mashiach promised to Israel, actually obey even the Hebrew Scriptures we quote below, join themselves to Israel and then qualify to partake in the inheritance given to the tribes of Israel? Below, we have selected several passages which speak about commands and statutes given not just to the Israelite/Jewish people but also to those "strangers" who have chosen to join themselves with Israel. |
Exodus 12:43-49 | |||

A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat thereof. |

All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. |

מח |
48 |
And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land; but no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. |

And it shall be a statute for ever unto you: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and shall do no manner of work, the home-born, or the stranger that sojourneth among you. |

For on this day shall atonement be made for you, to cleanse you; from all your sins shall ye be clean before the LORD. |

It is a sabbath of solemn rest unto you, and ye shall afflict your souls; it is a statute for ever. |

And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among them, that eateth any manner of blood, I will set My face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. |

And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among them, that taketh in hunting any beast or fowl that may be eaten, he shall pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust. |

For as to the life of all flesh, the blood thereof is all one with the life thereof; therefore I said unto the children of Israel: Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh; for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof; whosoever eateth it shall be cut off. |

For every one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that separateth himself from Me, and taketh his idols into his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet, that he inquire for him of Me--I the LORD will answer him by Myself, |

and I will set My face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of My people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. |

Thus saith the Lord GOD: No alien, uncircumcised in heart and uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into My sanctuary, even any alien that is among the children of Israel. |

And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you and to the strangers that sojourn among you, who shall beget children among you; and they shall be unto you as the home-born among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. |

And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord GOD. |
But Doesn't The New Testament
In practice, we have observed that among "Bible Believers" (aka fundamentalist "Christians") in North America that they consider the writings of the New Testament to be sacred to the point of idolatry. As such, to them it is "sacrilegious" to question their texts! Not only have we observed that they do not question their own texts, but they necessarily apply them to supersede the authority of the Torah given to Moses. We do not want to imply that we think these people are stupid or that they are insincere in their faith, but rather we want to express that we believe that they hold their texts in such high esteem that to them they cannot be questioned and even they treat them as superior to the Hebrew Scriptures in practice! However, we do regard the adherence to this practice to be lazy. To us, lazy exegesis causes them to just accept the tenets of their sacred writings (which they call Scripture) so much so that oftentimes they will simply disregard the Hebrew Scriptures, especially for very fundamental and essential dogmas of their faith! As a case–in–point, we would like to look again at a sub–set of a passage we quoted above as our first reference to those strangers who sojourn with Israel (Exodus 12:48-29). |
Exodus 12:48-49 | |||

And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land; but no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. |
49 |
One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.' |
We acknowledge that regarding the above passage and similar ones in the Hebrew Scriptures, Bible Believers/Christians will use the texts centering on the teachings of Paul (which include the writings of "Luke", his disciple, follower, biographer, friend) to validate the practice of their beliefs. Particularly, Acts chapter 15 speaks about circumcision, which the passage in Exodus makes clear is required for those who wish to partake of the Passover! Interestingly, the Christian practice of The Lord's Supper, aka communion, which is taken from passages regarding when Yeshua and His Talmidim partook of the Passover meal, and therefore to them considered as equivalent; that no consideration is ever given regarding passages in the Hebrew Scriptures like the Exodus 12 text where anything is required of them! Acts Chapter 15:1-21 (ESV):
1 But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers,
“Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”
16 “‘After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it,
19 Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God,
It is as in texts like this one from Acts that we see laziness where essential dogmas have been established in Christianity! We believe that it has to do with one not questioning his or her own tightly held beliefs and even using simple rules of observation to understand or desire to understand truth! To wit, in other accounts in the book Acts, actual salient quotes from the Tanach are referenced, whereas the references in Acts 15:16-18, though important in the scheme of things, do not provide evidence to verify and validate the stated judgment regarding the very important issue of circumcision by the said Jerusalem council which Paul and Barnabas purportedly were the bi-directional messengers! In other words, to us Acts 15 is one of the subtle passages we seriously doubt ever took place, although it is accepted essentially universally by all of Christianity as true (and unquestioned)! We think it rather preposterous that the direct Talmidim (disciples) of Yeshua Himself, who elsewhere are shown to quote salient passages from the Hebrew Scriptures, but here in Acts 15 do not quote any of the common passages such as Exodus 12 regarding circumcision! In practice, Acts 15 speaks directly regarding the governance of the goyim in association with Israel, particularly regarding circumcision. Because of the plethora of Hebrew Scriptural passages that discuss how that "the stranger that sojourneth among you" should conduct their lives among you, some of which we have quoted on this page, and because the writer of the book of Acts has elsewhere provided good references where internal validation is warranted (such as Acts 2:16ff); yet, in this passage appears to have conveniently disregarded that practice; this appears to us as purposeful, with an end result to have persuaded the many in contradiction to and subversion of the authority of the Hebrew Scriptures regarding the very important issue of circumcision for the stranger that sojourneth among you! To us,
Yet, in a very poignant example, Paul speaks regarding the authority of the Torah (King James renders as "law"):
For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
Contrast Paul's seminal teaching with that of Yeshua Himself:
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
