ARE THE TEN COMMANDMENTS RELEVANT TODAY? |
We, at The-Iconoclast.org, absolutely believe
that all of the commandments, statutes and ordinances that
יְהֹוָה
[Yehovah] gave to the children of Yisrael
are still relevant to us today.
It is our sincere desire that all who visit The-Iconoclast.org, likewise share, or will come to share, in that belief and in the wealth of that knowledge and understanding! Moreover, as you will find by reading the introduction section below ("Leningrad Codex, Exodus Chapter 20"), we believe that the Masoretes purposefully set Exodus 20 in the precise order that יְהֹוָה [Yehovah] intended! Therefore, as a preface to the introduction, we want to set this stage by quoting the first two verses from Psalms 1, emphasizing that meditating on the Torah, of which no doubt the TEN COMMANDMENTS of Exodus 20 represents, especially in the order given us in The Leningrad Codex, is most certainly of significant RELEVANCE for us today! |
Psalms 1:1-2
"...And on his Torah doth he meditate day and night." |
|
Leningrad Codex, Exodus Chapter 20 |
Note that in the original Leningrad Codex, a "Sof Pasuq"
(looks like a colon (:)) is what the
Masoretes used to designate the end of a verse.
In Exodus 20, below, where we show verse images from the facsimile Leningrad Codex, we believe we have captured those verse endings just as they appear in the actual Codex itself. Moreover, in The-Iconoclast.org Leningrad Codex Hebrew – JPS 1917 English Tanakh, we have likewise attempted to set the Hebrew and the English texts to match the Masoretic verse separations of the Leningrad Codex for Exodus 20. As of September, 2019, we know of no other published representations of Exodus, Chapter 20, where the verses are set to follow the actual Leningrad Codex! Please note that, below, we have taken Exodus, Chapter 20, and modified it to add the image of each verse from the facsimile (it is called "facsimile" because it is not the "original", but rather a photographic copy of it!) pdf version of the Leningrad Codex side–by–side the regular Web–Hebrew text (some of the verses, from the Leningrad Codex itself, actually break over different columns in the original document, so we have placed those instances side–by–side). We are hopeful that all who view this page will be able to discern that the Masoretes fully intended each verse to be separated in this manner, even though the great majority of "moderns" have chosen to represent it differently, even suggesting that they have "strictly" followed the Masoretic text! It is our sincere desire that יְהֹוָה [YehoVah] is honored and glorified by this present work, and that of The-Iconoclast's online Westminster Leningrad Codex based Hebrew – JPS 1917 based English Scriptures. Moreover, we hope that all are truly blessed who visit The-Iconoclast.org website! |

Groves Center Legend For Leningrad Codex Notes |
1 | BHS has been faithful to the Leningrad Codex where there might be a question of the validity of the form and we keep the same form as BHS. |
|
|
|
Be it known that the oldest complete manuscript of the Hebrew Scriptures,
the Leningrad Codex, has different verse "sectionings" (breaks) than
any "Bible" which "has the audicity" to claim
it as its source!
As a matter of fact:
Obviously, everyone can decide that for themselves! However, you might just come to understand that the Masoretes knew EXACTLY what they were doing when they separated the verses of Exodus 20! |
